The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed a two-phase, 206.6-lineal-meter flood control structure along the Rio Chico River in Barangay Macamias, Guimba, providing enhanced protection for the community by safeguarding residents and properties from potential flooding.
ย
OIC-District Engineer Jun Vana highlighted the projectโ€™s role in mitigating local flood risks, enhancing protection for residents and properties, and helping sustain farmlands by reducing the impact of recurring floods.
ย
“The first phase of the project involved the construction of a 79-lineal-meter river wall, followed by an additional 127.5 lineal meters in the second phase.
ย
Built on steel sheet piles and reinforced with a concrete coping and gabions for structural integrity, the structure is expected to enhance flood resilience, particularly for communities along the riverbanks,” Vana explained.
ย
The project was completed with a P47.8 million allocation from the 2024 national budget, reinforcing flood protection for residents and farmlands in Barangay Macamias.
